Presentations by Drs. Analia Veitz-Keenan & Debra M. Ferraiolo

Analia Veitz-Keenan, DDS, FPA, FACD, FAGD, holds the position of Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine at NYU College of Dentistry and teaches Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice for the Epidemiology and Health Promotion Department. She completed her training in Evidence-based Practice at McMaster University in Canada, at the Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry in Oxford, UK, and the American Dental Association. She shares her expertise as a clinician with the ADA, the Evidence-Based Dentistry Journal, the Journal of Evidence Dental Practice, and the Cochrane Collaboration.

Dr. Debra Ferraiolo is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology and Medicine at New York University, College of Dentistry. Currently, she serves as the Director of the Patient Admissions Clinic, as well as Course Director in Oral Diagnosis and Radiology for the second-year dental students. She began her academic journey at NYU in 2005. Dr. Ferraiolo is involved in various professional associations including the ADA, AGD and is the current Chair of the Continuing Education Committee for the NYS AGD. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson, Jr. College of Dental Medicine and completed a General Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ. Dr. Ferraiolo is a Fellow of the AGD and most recently, was inducted into the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Ferraiolo also maintains a private practice in NJ.

Course Goals and Objectives

The dental profession thrives on innovation, collaboration, and leadership. To attract new members, dentists, and future leaders, offering a comprehensive leadership program that fosters clinical skills and nurtures each individual's leadership potential is crucial.

This program aims to create a dynamic and inclusive environment that inspires dentists to become visionary leaders in dentistry.

The hybrid workshop course will equip dental professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to explore their leadership skills to be used in practices, communities, and associations.

The "Empowering Dentists" course provides dentists with the knowledge and skills necessary to become active leaders.

Course Objectives:

1. Understand the fundamentals of leadership theory and its application in the dental context.

2. Character-based leadership- Discover the individual’s inner strengths.

3. Develop effective communication skills.

4. Cultivate skills in decision-making.

5. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

6. Understand the role and structure of organized dentistry at the local, state, and national levels.

7. Learn advocacy techniques for promoting policy and legislation

8. Empower participants to take on leadership roles and contribute to the advancement of the dental profession.

The in person course will have a strong participation component

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved program provider.  The sponsor’s formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship and Mastership and membership maintenance credit.  This course is also acceptable for MCE Licensing Maintenance.  The current term of approval extends from 01/01/23 to 12/31/25.  AGD Code #219318.
