Speaker: Dr. Daniel G. Pompa

Dr. Daniel Pompa is an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon. After graduating from New York University College of Dentistry in 1978, Dr. Pompa completed a GPR at Long Island Jewish Hospital, followed by specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Lincoln Hospital, New York Medical College.  In 1982 he became a Fellow of The American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons and in 1992 a Fellow in The International Congress of Oral Implantologists.  He has been a guest lecturer at both Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and New York University College of Dentistry.  Dr. Pompa has published in several journals such as Dentistry Today and the Journal of the American Dental Association.  He is also an inventor, having been issued a U.S. Patent for his innovative work in the field of dental implantology (U.S. Patent #5,320,529).  Dr. Pompa is currently a guest faculty at NYU College of Dentistry.

Course Description - Morning Lecture - "Medical Emergencies or How To Save A Life Including Your Own" 

This seminar is given in a multimedia format with a hands-on segment showing drug administration using real drugs in real syringes on simulated models.  We will also have interactive audience participation (on a volunteer basis) to facilitate the learning experience.  This lecture will review the preventive, preparations, recognition, and the management of medical emergencies which can and do occur in the dental office.

Speaker: Erik Zalewski - Have Dummy Will Travel

B.S. – Environmental Science – Susquehanna University, PA and M.S. – Hydrogeology – SUNY Stony Brook

Erik is a public high school science teacher and 20-year veteran Critical Care Emergency Medical Technician.  Erik has also worked for the Suffolk County EMS Academy as a skills instructor.  Erik continues to treat ill and injured persons on a regular basis.  As the CEO of Have Dummy Will Travel, Inc., he is able to use his unique experiences in emergency medicine and teaching to create emergency preparedness programs that are both educational and enjoyable.

Afternoon Lecture - "CPR/AED Certification:

During this certification course, you will learn the latest Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines for Basic Life Support for adults and children.  You will learn how to properly administer chest compressions, mouth-to-mask ventilations, bag-mask ventilations, supplemental oxygen, and maneuvers to relieve choking.  

Course includes continential breakfast and lunch

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved program provider.  The sponsor’s formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship and Mastership and membership maintenance credit.  This course is also acceptable for MCE Licensing Maintenance.  The current term of approval extends from 01/01/15 to 12/31/18.  AGD Code #219318.
