Presentation by Dr. Kenneth Fleisher:

Kenneth Fleisher, DDS, FACS is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the New York University College of Dentistry, Associate Director of the OMS Postgraduate training program and an attending surgeon Bellevue Hospital Center and New York University Langone Medical Center in Plastic Surgery where he participates training pre-doctoral dental students, postgraduate residents, international postgraduate students and faculty on the advancements related to understanding Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ).

Dr. Fleisher is recognized by NYU for his clinical expertise in managing patients undergoing antiresorptive therapy and who have developed MRONJ. Dr. Fleisher has treated over 500 patients with MRONJ and has published numerous chapters and papers in peer-reviewed journals, lectures nationally and internationally for dental, medical and surgical organizations and he is currently the principal investigator of an interdisciplinary translational research protocol that explores the pathogenesis of osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Dr. Fleisher has developed new strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, risk assessment and treatment of MRONJ. His presentation will focus on the many dilemmas surrounding MRONJ and new strategies to maintain oral health while undergoing antiresorptive therapy.

1. Strategies for diagnosis of MRONJ related to clinical presentation, imaging and differential diagnosis.

2. Risk assessment and prevention related to dental treatment: What works and what doesn’t.

3. Recent advances in pathogenesis: What we know today and how this may impact clinical decisions.

4. Strategies for improving oral health and function via dentoalveolar surgery, restorative dentistry and implant surgery.

5. Management options for patients with MRONJ.

Objectives

After participating in this presentation, attendees should be able to:

1. Identify strategies to diagnosis MRONJ.

2. Discuss risk assessment and prevention related to dental treatment.

3. Understand recent advances in the pathogenesis for MRONJ.

4. Implement strategies for improving oral health and function.

5. Recommend surgical options for patients with MRONJ.
