Speaker: Dr. Michael Katzap 

Dr. Michael Katzap has spent years as a practitioner and educator in oral implantology. Dr. Katzap graduated from New York University College of Dentistry with honors in oral surgery, and after completing a General Practice Residency at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center (BUHMC) in Brooklyn NYC, was accepted and completed a hospital-based AAID recognized two-year Implantology fellowship program at BUHMC under Dr. A. Norman Cranin. After graduating, Dr. Katzap entered private practice, in Queens NYC, focused on oral implantology.

Dr. Katzap was recruited to be the General Practice Residency Coordinator at BHMC and in 2001 became the Director of the Implantology Fellowship Program in BHMC, a position he held till 2010.

Dr. Katzap has been a literature review editor for the Journal of Oral Implantology since 1998; Dr. Katzap has lectured nationally, including the New York American Academy of Implant Dentistry Maxi course and the Greater New York Dental Meeting. He has lectured internationally on the topic of head and neck anatomy as it relates to oral implantology, implant surgery, bone grafting procedures and techniques.

Dr. Katzap is an Adjunct clinical assistant professor with New York University College of Dentistry.  He has earned Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, Diplomate of the International College or Oral Implantology, an Honored Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID).  Former graduate and director of the Fellowship program in Oral Implantology at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.

 

Goals and Objectives:

  • Introduce the clinician to biphasic calcium sulfate (BCS) as a bone graft cement material and the history of use in medicine.
  • Review the use of BCS in minor oral surgery and implant dentistry. 
  • Development of treatment protocols
  • Discuss the use of BCS in the esthetic zone, lateral augmentation, and socket grafts, with and without flap reflection.

Objectives:

  • Maximize beneficial outcomes for the patient and the clinician when using biphasic calcium sulfate in minor oral surgery and implant dentistry.
  • Conduct hands-on exercises on the use of biphasic calcium sulfate (BCS)
  • Summarize and demonstrate specific techniques and common pitfalls in the use of BCS.  

 

New York AGD is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by AGD for Fellowship, Mastership and membership maintenance credit. Approval does not imply acceptance by a state or provincial board of dentistry or AGD endorsement.  The current term of approval extends from 01/01/2023 to 12/31/2024.
