Dates: Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22, 2016

        Location: NYSAGD Learning Center, Whitestone, NY. 

            Registration 8:00 am, Lecture 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  

14 MCE Participation Credit Hours

(Participants will receive up to 34 MCE Participation Credit Hours Towards Mastership

Upon Completion of Their Presentation at the Spring 2017 Empire State Masters Program)

This program is open to all dentists including pre-fellows as credit is applied towards Mastership.

Presentation by Dr. Ross Kerr - Friday, October 21, 2016
Dr. Ross Kerr received his DDS from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and his MSD and certificate in Oral Medicine at the University of Washington. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology & Medicine at New York University College of Dentistry where he is the director of the Oral Mucosal Disease Service and an attending at the NYU Oral Cancer Center. He is the immediate past president of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and a steering committee member of the World Workshop on Oral Medicine. His private practice is focused on the management of patients with oral mucosal disease, dry mouth, and the dental management of medically complex patients.  

 

Course Decription - Oral Medicine

Introduction: This full day course will cover the foundational knowledge and will include a series of cases which will be presented interactively. At the end of the day, attendees will each receive an assignment of one or more cases which they will work-up and present at the 2017 Case Presentations in April.  

Goals:

  1. Provide attendees with foundational knowledge about the epidemiology, underlying disease processes and classification systems for oral and maxillofacial diseases.
  2. Provide attendees with the skills to evaluate patients presenting with a range of oral and maxillofacial diseases: data collection from a detailed patient history, physical examination, laboratory investigations and imaging.
  3. Provide attendees with the skills to formulate diagnoses and manage patients presenting with a range of oral and maxillofacial diseases.

Objectives:

Attendess should be able to:

  1. Appreciate the spectrum of oral soft tissue diseases based on underlying disease processes, such as traumatic, immune-mediated, infectious (bacterial, fungal, and viral), neoplastic (benign and malignant), and hereditary.
  2. Appreciate the spectrum of oral soft tissue diseases based on clinical presentations (ie signs, symptoms and clinical course).
  3. Understand the basis for and be able to perform the steps of eliciting a patient history, including the chief complaint, history of chief complaint, medical history, social history, and dental history.
  4. Understand the basis for and be able to perform the steps of the physical examination and imaging (dental photography and using various medical imaging modalities), and how to document abnormal findings.  

Presentation by Dr. John Tucker - Saturday, October 22, 2016

John H. Tucker, D.M.D. has maintained a private practice in Erie, Pennsylvania since 1982.  He is a graduate of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Dental Medicine.  He has completed the Boston Seminars in Implant Dentistry with Dr. Paul Schnitman, the University Of Buffalo Esthetic Dentistry Program, and all levels of the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study, and the University Of Buffalo Patient Mastery Program.  In 2005 he was awarded a Certificate of Proficiency in Esthetic Dentistry from the University Of Buffalo. He is a Member of the American College of Oral Implantology, the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.  He is also a Diplomate for both the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American Society of Osseointegration.  Dr. Tucker has Mastership status in the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics as well as Fellowship in the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics.  He is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.  

Course description - Dental Sleep Medicine  

This program will show you how your practice and patients can benefit from this exciting new field of dentistry…Dental Sleep Medicine! -  Oral Appliance Therapy for the treatment of Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Participants will learn a basic understanding of human sleep and how it is adversely affected by OSA as well as associated co-morbidities.  Dr. Tucker will discuss a variety of appliance designs and clinical application for those patients that are intolerant to CPAP.

The Empire State Mastership Track is a “Protocol” program that complies with the standards and guidelines of AGD’s Council on Dental Education. In order to receive full participation credit the participant will be required to do a case presentation based on an in-office procedure that reflects the material taught by the instructor. The fee for this program includes the case presentation session, held approximately 6 months after the initial meeting.  This program is open to all dentists including pre-fellows as credit is applied towards Mastership.

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved PACE provider.  The sponsor's formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship, Mastership and maintenance credit.  Approval does not imply acceptance by a state of provincial board of dentistry. The current term of approval extends from 1/01/14 to 12/31/18.  AGD Code#219318
