About the Speaker:
Shawn M. Graham, CPA brings more than 25 years of experience leading the financial direction of national corporations in a variety of industries. From performing due diligence on acquisitions for a publicly traded broadcasting company with revenues in excess of $600 million to training Business Managers and setting up accounting software integrations, she brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her business coaching practice. Content for the FocalPoint Coaching program was developed by Brain Tracy, a recognized leader in helping individuals, businesses, and executives, find more time, build better teams, and generate more profit.

Shawn received her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Lehman College in New York City; her Certification in Public Accounting from the Georgia State Board of Accountancy; and her Business Coaching Certification from FocalPoint Powered by Brian Tracy in San Diego, California. Shawn is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, Smyrna Business Association, and the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Course Description
Designed for business owners and practitioners, this workshop provides an overview of the complexities involved in exit strategy including valuation, addressing areas of risk, enhancing the value, identifying the best buyers, selecting the transition team, and the best time to prepare.
- Statistics and trends to think about: Percentages of businesses successfully sold and personal net worth tied into a business or practice.
- Defining your GAP: What is your practice worth now versus what you need it to be worth.
- Misconceptions of value: What is your multiple?
- How are businesses valued: Determining the most common approach.
- What is risk? Concerns of investors and the uncertainty of future revenues and earnings.
- Examples of value drivers: Factors that are in control of the owner and factors that are not.
- Three types of buyers: Identifying the 3 types of buyers and knowing what plan to put in place to attract the right buyer and maximize the value you receive.
- Preparing for the best buyer: Setting goals to match the buyers need.
- Building the right transition team: The role of each transition team member.
- When do you start: Deciding when it’s the best time to prepare when deciding to sell.
- Asset deal vs. Stock deal: Comparing asset vs. stock deal and determining which is the best structure for you.
- How long does it take to sell a business?: Breaking down the average time it takes to sell a business.
The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved program provider. The sponsor’s formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship and Mastership and membership maintenance credit. This course is also acceptable for MCE Licensing Maintenance.
