Presentation by Dr. Gwen Cohen-Brown

Gwen Cohen Brown DDS is a Professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene at the New York City College of Technology and a Fellow in the American Academy of Oral and Maxillo-facial Pathology. Dr. Brown has been faculty at the AIDS Institute since 1992 and the NY/NJ AIDS Education and Training Center since 1993. Dr. Brown provides continuing education on the topics of Infection Control, Oral Cancer and Emerging Medical Technologies, and Common Oral Lesions for licensed health care providers in NY and NJ where she represents and is sponsored by the NYSDOH, the NYSDOC, the AIDS Institute and the NY/NJ AETC.

Dr. Brown graduated with a Doctor in Dental Surgery degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 1988, followed by an Advanced Education Program in General Practice Dentistry, also at NYUCD in 1989.

She completed a three-year residency program in Oral and Maxillo-Facial Pathology at the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens followed by a two-year sub-specialty fellowship in Oral and Maxillo-Facial Pathology at the Health Science Center SUNY Brooklyn Downstate Medical College/Kings County Hospital Medical Facility.

Course Goals and Objectives

This course provides the necessary information on and documentation to fulfill the licensure/credentialing requirements mandated by the New York State Education on Department and Department of Health. Attendees learn to understand how blood borne pathogens may be transmitted in the work place. The clinician also shows attendees how to apply infection control principles and how to minimize transmission of pathogens.

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved program provider.  The sponsor’s formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship and Mastership and membership maintenance credit.  This course is also acceptable for MCE Licensing Maintenance.  The current term of approval extends from 01/01/15 to 12/31/18.  AGD Code #219318.
