Dates: Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2015

        Location: NYSAGD Learning Center, Whitestone, NY. 

            Registration 8:00 am, Lecture 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  

 

(Participants will receive up to 34 MCE Participation Credit Hours Towards Mastership

Upon Completion of Their Presentation at the Spring 2016 Empire State Masters Program)

This program is open to all dentists including pre-fellows as credit is applied towards Mastership.

Presentation by Dr. Omar Suarez
Dr. Omar Suarez is Board Certified in the field of Orofacial pain, and a Master in the American Academy of General Dentistry. He received his dental degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers).
Dr. Suarez is the Director of Advanced Education in Orofacial Pain Residency Program at the NYU Lutheran Medical Center.  He previously taught at NYU School of Dentistry in the Department of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology.

 

Course Description

 

Occlusal Assessment

  • Signs and symptoms of occlusal disorder
  • Assessment of the occlusion: physiologic vs. pathologic
  • Definition and evaluation of centric relation and centric occlusion
  • Deprogramming using a modified version of the Lucia jip
  • How to stabilize a mutilated or worn dentition prior to restoration
  • Design and fabrication of a modified Lucia jig

Diagnosis and Selctive Management of TMD  

  • Introduction of orofacial pain disorders and TMD
  • Sources of non-odontogenic pain
  • Functional anatomy and biomechanics of the TMJ
  • Pathophysiology of the TMJ and associated structures
  • Evaluating patients with TMD signs and symptoms
  • Differential diagnosis and imaging selecltion
  • Inter-articular disorders of the TMJ
  • Extra-articular TMD
  • Peri-articular TMD
  • Treatment and management options
  • Prosthetic and restorative cinsiderations in patients with TMD

On-site Participation

  • Assessment of the mandibular range of motion, muscle and joint palpation techniques and imaging
  • Orthotic selction, design and records for fabrication
  • Insertion and adjustments for comfort and therapeutic efficacy
  • Fabrication of a deprogrammer
 Case Presentation on removable will be Sunday, October 18

The Empire State Mastership Track is a “Protocol” program that complies with the standards and guidelines of AGD’s Council on Dental Education. In order to receive full participation credit the participant will be required to do a case presentation based on an in-office procedure that reflects the material taught by the instructor. The fee for this program includes the case presentation session, held approximately 6 months after the initial meeting.  This program is open to all dentists including pre-fellows as credit is applied towards Mastership.

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved PACE provider.  The sponsor's formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship, Mastership and maintenance credit.  Approval does not imply acceptance by a state of provincial board of dentistry. The current term of approval extends from 1/01/14 to 12/31/18.  AGD Code#219318
