Presentation by: Gwen Cohen Brown, DDS
Dr. Gwen Cohen Brown is a Full Professor in the Dental Hygiene Department, at NYCCT, a licensed Dentist in NYS and a Fellow in the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Brown has published and lectured extensively on HIV/AIDS, Common Oral Lesions, Infection Control, and Oral Cancer.
Dr. Brown is the Oral Health Community Expert for WebMD and faculty at the NY/NJ AETC. She is a member of the Dental Standards of Care Committee charged with writing current HIV Clinical Guidelines Program for the NYSDOH/AIDS Institute. Dr. Brown authored the current Monograph on Oral Lesions in HIV Seropositive Patients for the AIDS Institute and NYSDOH/NYSDOC. Her book, co-authored with Dr. Aida Egues, The Oral Systemic Connection A Collaborative, Interdisciplinary Clinical Companion for the Healthcare Provider will be published in June 2020 by Kendall Hunt.

Infection Control and PEP
Course Goals and Objectives:
NYS law requires that all healthcare professionals including dentists and hygienists receive training in infection control and barrier precautions every four years.This course fulfills the mandatory infection control course for oral healthcare providers required for re-licensure in New York State. It will also review PEP, PPE, managing occupational exposures, and the bloodborne pathogen standard.
Learning Objectives:
• the risks for transmission of Bloodborne pathogens in a dental setting
• methods of reducing risk
• principles of managing occupational exposures in the dental setting
• a review of CDC/OSHA/PEP guidelines
The certificate is valid for a period of Four (4) years from the above date of course completion and may be used for NYS professional relicensure requirements verification. Be sure to maintain this document in your professional file.
