Presentation by Dr. Robert Convissar

He has written three textbooks and over a dozen peer reviewed papers translated into eight languages. Awards include Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Academy of Dento-Facial Esthetics, and Mastership in the Academy of Laser Dentistry. He has delivered over 200 laser certification courses on 5 continents – from London to Florence to Tokyo to Bangkok to Sydney to Hong Kong and everywhere in between. . Dr. Convissar practices laser, cosmetic and restorative dentistry in New York City.  Dr. Convissar also serves as Director of Laser Dentistry at New York Hospital Queens. His 4th textbook, Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry, is scheduled for publication in June of 2010

Course Objective and Goals
The use of lasers for specific procedures found in everyday fixed, removable and implant prosthetic cases will be highlighted.  Since the basis of a successful prosthetic reconstruction is a healthy periodontal foundation, the use of lasers for non-surgical, surgical, and regenerative periodontics will also be discussed.

1)      Soft and hard tissue crown lengthening

2)      Cordless gingival troughing

3)      Cosmetic recontouring of gingival prior to laminate placement

4)      Treatment of altered passive eruption cases prior to eruption

5)      Peri-implant soft tissue modification and treatment of peri-implantitis

6)      Torus and tuberosity reduction (both hard and soft tissue)

7)      Removal of epulis without scar/contraction of the vestibule

8)      Treatment of chronic denture stomatitis

9)      Residual ridge surgery/vestibuloplasty

10)   Ovate pontic site formation

11)   Long term management of the perio-prosthetic patient

12)   Hard tissue lasers – are we ready to replace the turbine handpiece?

The participant will perform many of the above procedures during the wet lab on animal jaws.  Upon completion of this course, participants will be familiar with the use of lasers for specific procedures found in a periodontal and prosthetics-driven practice.
